Therapists are never ‘done’ with growth, they are simply people who should be dedicated to learning as much about themselves and others as they possibly can. The best therapists are fully human and engage in the struggles of life. Our own failures help us to remain open to the struggles of others; our personal victories give us the optimism and courage to inspire those struggling with their lives.
– Louis Cozolino, The Making of a Therapist
As human beings, we all have seasons and symptoms for which we could use a compassionate witness, encouraging guide, and nonjudgmental professional. The focus of my counseling is to let you know you are not alone, to encourage hope, and to provide the practical tools and support necessary to undertake the process toward self-compassion, acceptance, and the change you seek.
I use an integrative approach to therapy that includes:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (working with how our thoughts influence our behavior)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (exploring our relationship with our emotions)
- Choice & Reality Theory (creating congruence between our needs and choices)
- Adlerian Therapy (emphasizing a holistic and goal-oriented framework for overcoming challenge on the way to change)
- Compassion Focused Therapy (understanding the interaction between human needs, behavior, and emotion regulation systems so we can be present with our own distress/suffering
- Brainspotting (identifying, processing, and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional pain through eye movement, bilateral stimulation, and compassionate attunement)
I work with adults and am committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for individuals of all identities, cultures, and backgrounds. My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, quarter- and midlife transition, grief and loss, identity exploration, social anxiety, postpartum support, career counseling, parenting and/or relationship challenges, chronic illness, highly sensitive persons, military deployment/adjustment issues, and trauma recovery. I am comfortable counseling from a spiritual or faith-based perspective when it fits my clients’ beliefs and needs. I hold an MS in Professional Counseling from Concordia University in Mequon, WI.
